Attempt on the Life of Security Chief in Ciénega de Flores

The crisis of violence in Nuevo León continues to rise with the recent gun attack against the Secretary of Public Security of Ciénega de Flores, Juan Gutiérrez Galindo. The incident occurred while he was driving through the streets of the Real de San Pedro neighborhood, in the neighboring municipality of Zuazua, reported the municipal president Miguel Quiroga.

In a statement released later, Quiroga confirmed the attack and assured that Gutiérrez Galindo was safe and cooperating with authorities to clarify what happened. The secretary survived because the vehicle he was traveling in was armored, although it sustained multiple gunfire impacts.

After the attack, Gutiérrez Galindo continued driving, being pursued by the assailants, who were apparently on a motorcycle. He managed to evade them and returned to the municipal police station of Ciénega de Flores, located about 8 kilometers from the crime scene. Later, it was revealed that the police facilities were being secured by elements of the National Guard, Civil Force, and the Mexican Army.

The attack took place on Real San Pedro Avenue, near where a few days earlier an operation had been conducted in which an arsenal was seized after locating an abandoned vehicle. This is the first attack against a police chief this year.

Gutiérrez Galindo had recently assumed office on September 30, during the beginning of the second period of the municipal administration of PVEM. The mayor reiterated the commitment to work together with the corresponding authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice, assuring the citizens that all necessary measures are being taken to guarantee safety and tranquility in the community.
